Mali Izvor Solar Power Plant

The Mali Izvor solar power plant is planned to be built on the territory of KO Mali Izvor, City of Zaječar. The plant will be located in the area between the City of Zaječar and the Municipality of Knjaževac. The distance from the main road and the railway is about 1,200 meters. The solar power plant will cover approximately 75 hectares, located just above the village of Mali Izvor. The site will include a solar field, a transformer station, and a 110 kV switchyard (TS and PRP), and from that location, a 6.5 km long 110 kV transmission line will be built.

The project also includes the construction of a small 35 kV transmission line and a 35 kV PRP for backup supply, as well as a water well for the needs of the solar power plant and the water supply of the village of Mali Izvor, along with a new access road to be used both during construction and later operations. Within the project development, in the next phase after construction is completed, the development of specific agribusiness suitable for this area is also planned.

The solar power plant will have a projected capacity of 50 MW AC and 65 MW DC, with an annual electricity production of 92,000 MWh.

Companies from Serbia engaged in the preparation of project documentation are: Projektura, for Detailed Regulation Plans and the Urban Project for the transmission line; GMS Consulting, for the solar field design; Tim Elpro, for the transformer station and PRP design; Dvant, for the transmission line project; and Natura, for the necessary environmental studies.

  • Energy Network Documentation

So far, the Detailed Regulation Plan has been successfully completed and adopted by the Assembly of the City of Zaječar, and the conceptual designs for the 110 kV transmission line and the 110 kV PRP have been approved by Elektromreža Srbije. In parallel, the conceptual design for the solar panels has been completed. The environmental impact assessment has also been accepted by the Institute for Nature Conservation of the Republic of Serbia, while the urban project for the transmission line is in the final phase of preparation and approval.

The Mali Izvor solar power plant project is owned by Energy Network from Belgrade, a 100% privately-owned company. According to the project timeline approved by EMS, with whom the Grid Connection Agreement has also been signed, building permits are expected to be secured by June 2026. Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of the same year, with completion and trial operation expected by June 2027.
